Day 10: Exploring the Golden Circle – Geysers and Waterfalls of Iceland

Today is the day to drive along the Golden Circle of Iceland. It is an area full of geothermal activity, specially because it is a place you kind find active Geysers!

We stayed at the hotel Litli Grysir. Here the website: https://hotelgeysir.is

It is perfectly located next to the Geysers, walking distance away, look at the picture.

The Great Geysir and Strokkur, the very predictable Geysir, are our next stops.

Here a link to the explanation of the Geothermal area and the Geysers around. Website: https://perlan.is/articles/geysir-iceland-golden-circle

And then we crossed the street and went to the Geysir Park.

In this geothermal area, there are several mud spots, steam vents and mainly 2 geysers. 1 is the “Great Geysir”, which blows water higher than the Old Faithful in Yellowstone. But since several years, it blows only every couple of years. The other one is Strokkur, which shows its art every 3min.

And the we drove 9min to Gulffoss. Another very impressive waterfall!

Great team!!!

After Gulffoss, we drove 30min to another waterfall, Brúarfoss. A special waterfall due to the color of its waters.

This was the last waterfall of the whole trip. Amazing waterfalls, each one unique and beautiful in its own way!

And now it’s time to see another volcano crater, the Kerið crater.

A volcano crater with dark green water, beautiful!

And then we started heading to the most famous national park in Iceland, Thingvellir.

And this was the last sightseeing spot outside of Reykjavik. Now it is time to start driving to the capital, where we will spend another 3 nights.

We stayed at the hotel Oddsson. Great price, great place, modern and clean. Here the website: https://www.oddsson.is

From the hotel we decided to look for typical icelandic food. Fish if possible. After googling a bit, we found Potturinn Og Pannan. Here the website: https://potturinn.is/?lang=en

Great dinner!

And now back to the hotel to relax and recharge batteries for tomorrow!

We drove today 2.5h and it was a relaxing day. Ready for more tomorrow!
