Day 3: A Scenic Drive Through Iceland’s Breathtaking Landscapes (Northwest)

Today we drove 6h between Stykkishólmur and Akureyri, making 2 stops, one at Hvítserkur and the second at Glaumbær Turfhouses. We explored hours of gravel and dirt roads in the middle of the mountains, icy rivers and sheeps. Gorgeous!

Dirt road in the middle of nowhere
Gravel road along the mountains
They are everywhere
Houses in the middle of nowhere
And Fjoerds, many of them.
Houses in unthinkable places , look at the mountains.
Our first stop: Hvítserkur
Icelandic hotdog lunch with carrot, ginger and apple juice… in a gas station in the middle of nowhere.
Turf roof to isolate and protect against the elements.
Glaumbær: Turf Houses are typical in Iceland farmhouses from the 18th and 19th century.
And here we are.
Icelandics were short at that time.
Look who had to wash the card after so much dirt road driving
Downtown Akureyri
Akureyri pedestrian street
This was our route today. The dark blue one on dirt and gravel roads between Stykkishólmur and Hvíserkur. Then the south one to Glaumbær and Akureyri. Good 6h on the road.
Codfish with white wine!
This is where we had a delicious dinner (codfish)! Great wine bistro! Here the website: https://www.eyjaak.is
