Day 5: Adventures in Iceland – From Breakfast to Waterfalls (Northeast)

After waking up in the cottage and having skyr for breakfast and having breakfast and waffles with honey in front of the lake, we set off on our adventure throughout Iceland.

Our breakfast in front of the lake. Mom could be smiling more
Dimmuborgir: an area of beautiful lava formations
This is how the lava sculptures were formed
It is a panorama of the landscape called the land of the trolls or Dimmuborgir.
This is a rock formation with a hole in the center. It has an arch over the structure. It is very unique due to its shape.
The volcano is wonderful looking and is strenuous to climb. The view is totally worth it tho.
This is the view from the volcano. See, totally worth seeing this! the name of the volcano is Hverfjall
Abra cadabra!
Grjótagjá is a cave with turquoise colored water, beautiful.
Above the cave, there is an earth crack that looks like a canyon.

After caves and earth cracks, we went to the Myvatn geothermal area.: Hverir

Here is Kralfa, a volcano with a unique crater.
Here is another volcano with a crater, it is called Krafla, it is a geothermal crater lake due to the water going up from the ground and being heated and why it is the turquoise color due to minerals.
Cap color matching the scenery
This were our next stops, Detifoss and Selfoss
Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe
Look at this!
Beautiful place. The powerful roar from the waterfall is impressive.

About 1Km above the Dettifoss there is a smaller elegant waterfall called Selfoss.

Selfoss

After climbing volcanos, enjoying sulfurous steams and seeing majestic waterfalls, we hit the road for 2.5h to the Northeast of Iceland. We drove hours with nothing on the right side, nothing on the left side and a long and empty road ahead of us.

Road to the Northeast

It is a far place in the northeast called Borgarfjarðarhöfn. It has a Puffin paradise there. But on the way we stopped at a canyon of perfectly shaped rocks.

Canyon Stuðlagil

Here we are, at the edge of the northeast!
Puffins
They nest on this hill. Thousands of them. They actually do not make nests, they dig holes and leave in the little caves they make.
Preparing to go into the “house”
They are cute!
